Memento Mori
Developed by Neil Scharnick and the students of Carthage Theatre in association with Donal Courtney and the West End House School of Arts, Killarney
Carthage College, Kenosha, WI
The challenge: bring Dublin's Smock Alley Theatre to life within the walls of Carthage College's Wartburg Theatre in Wisconsin. Smock Alley dimensions and images were used to inspire the set at Carthage. This also allowed the cast to transition to performance in Dublin more easily, having worked on a similar set. Student assistant Matthew Wrbanek created large-scale projections used on the main wall, and helped dream up the idea of the Tree of Life bursting through the wall. The set was also designed to break down and travel to the Region 3 ACTF festival.
Student Assistant Scenic Designer: Matthew Wrbanek
Director: Neil Kristian Scharnick
Lighting: William Newcomb
